Caffeine Benefits - Does It Boost Memory?

Caffeine, like chocolate, often receives bad publicity. While in some cases, especially, this can have negative effects on our bodies, they can also be very useful.

I do not dispute that some people are sensitive to the adverse effects of caffeine and chocolate. For example, excess caffeine can include anxiety, nausea (especially if taken on an empty stomach), an increase in heart rate, and even create a depression in some people. And chocolate is certainly not something the mainstay of a diet should provide. If struggling with sugar addiction, or if you want to lose weight, there are more nutritionally complete foods available.

But scientists have some interesting facts about caffeine. For example, caffeine actually blocks the effects of a neurotransmitter in the brain (adenosine), which otherwise we tired. That's why it works so well to wake us up. It also stimulates the release of another substance in the brain, dopamine (such as adrenaline). Dopamine contributes to a sense of well-being.

Two studies, one population-based study (which is not as specific or rigorously defined as other types of studies, but nonetheless valuable indicators) found that drinking caffeine containing drinks like coffee and tea have a protective effect for those with the risk of developing liver disease. Questions of the study participants had an increased risk of liver disease included alcoholism, hepatitis B or C, obesity or complications.

And the results have shown that people who drank more than two cups of coffee a day a chance to show 44% less than actual damage to the liver compared to those who drank caffeine had. It was not a clinical trial, and the reason why coffee and tea have such an effect is unknown. Coffee and tea contain a range of plant substances (phytochemicals) that may be responsible for this. A 2005 study in Norway also found similar benefits for coffee on liver disease. This study showed that drinking three cups of coffee a day may increase the risk of death from cirrhosis of the liver is lower.

Even without the risk of liver disease, caffeine has several advantages. Recent research has shown that caffeine Austria can even improve the short-term memory. The researchers found that there was an increase in brain activity (measured by functional magnetic resonance imaging) in parts of the brain associated with memory and attention. These parts of the brain, the frontal lobe and anterior cingulate. This was a controlled study against placebo, which means that some people were not given caffeine. Another previous study (2004) found that the support of caffeine short term memory, but only if it was related to a topic that people have thought. This study found that when testing the effects of coffee on topics unrelated, short-term recall has been inhibited.

Everything has a downside, however. Adenosine, which is blocked by coffee, is also soothing. That may be why it can also cause anxiety in excess, and in some people. Indeed, the equilibrium is the unique chemistry of the brain. And if we are addicted to stimulants such as caffeine, we lose the sensitivity of our own natural stimulants (dopamine and adrenaline).
